Bansko Film Festival

■9th International Mountain Film Festival Bansko 2009

This is a trailer for the International Mountain Film Festival that takes place in Bansko from 25.11. till 29.11.2009. This year, for the first time, a film about Bansko participates.

Traditionally at the end of November Bansko hosts the only mountain film festival in Southeast Europe and the Balkans. Its organizers are the Mountain Film Festival Association and the Municipality of Bansko. It is a member of the World Alliance for mountain cinema, which includes 16 cinema forums from 12 countries.

The Bansko film festival presents about 80 movies among them the best in the genre of about 25 from 4-5 continents.

Spectators not only get a view of the wildest, most unassailable and most inhospitable places on Earth - from the Antarctic to Alaska, from Papua-New Guinea to the Andes- but also get acquainted with the lifestyle, art, religion and culture of the mountain people.

The emphasis in the retrospective part of the program lies on important events in the history of Bulgarian and world alpinism, with the anniversaries of the remarkable ascents, adventures and discoveries. This year will be marked by the 80th anniversary of the Bulgarian alpinism and Bulgarian cave exploring.

During the film festival in Bansko at the foot of Pirin meet the greatest mountaineers, travelers, hunters of adventure, researchers and representatives of the extreme and mountain sports like considered the greatest mountaineer of all time Reinhold Messner, considered to be the greatest mountaineer of all time, the most famous modern polar explorer and researcher Børge Ousland from Norway, the winner of four Grand World Cups, Olympic and ski world champion Gustav Thoeni from Italy), the emblematic Polish mountaineer Krzysztof Wielicki and others.

Guests of this year's festival will be the guru of the world grand alpinism Walter Bonati, the legendary British mountaineer Chris Bonington, the best contemporary climber Alexander Huber most famous American mountain film director and operator of Michael Brown, with five Everest climbs and others.

Bansko is the capital of mountain cinema in Bulgaria, the Balkans and Southern Europe due to its position as a first-class travel, and alpine ski center. The organizers of the Bansko film festival are to contribute to the importance of the town on the cultural and tourist map of Europe and the world.
