Bouldering: The object is achieve different levels of climbing by decreasing the number of rocks you use to get to the top.
Starting from 9 down to the near impossible 3.
Now, someone needs to tell the boys that no, we do NOT like the chin hair. Next thing you know, Ueda will start trying to grow one...*thinks about this* Oh GAWD, NO! Also, can he even grow facial hair?
I think the best thing about having location shoots with just Jin, Nakamaru, and Junno is that they often allow each other to shine. Apart from being the butt of the jokes, Junno gets the opportunity to show off his flexibility, Nakamaru's mini-fail doesn't look as bad, and Jin's "throw yourself off a wall" might be more awesome than his actual climbing technique. We're also gifted with the sight of the outline of someone's underwear...and no, it's not KAT-TUN underwear. (lol again)
I actually think it's adorable how they each rush forward for their turn.
Finally, the main event. Party time!
But...not before a song, which is basically a long drawn out sentence in opera.
Now if only they were in pyjamas...
In the heart of the lofty, knife-sharp Vindhya Mountains in India sits a 6,500-foot rock and ice route that resembles a massive shark fin and rises from the ocean of crags. This fin, which is twice as long as anything on El Capitan and just as steep, has denied many notable climbers from reaching its summit.
In Samsara Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk set out to attempt a first ascent. The film is woven together with art, journal excerpts and still photography. Produced by the athletes, Samara is an unfiltered perspective into a powerful Himalayan climbing experience. The team spends 20 days of life on the cliff face with ten days of food through major storm cycles on a hanging platform smaller than the size of a single bed. They push to the very edge of what they thought possible and rediscover why they are drawn to suffer in such sacred and beautiful places.
Here's the thing: The sacred peak, Meru, is said in mythology to be the center of the universe, but can you climb to the center of the universe?

Here we explore the indoor rock walls and speak to a member of staff about pricing, competitions, and the local culture. This is a great place to boulder and be part of a more relaxed scene that has been in place since the early 90's.

I woke up when the plane wheels hit the tarmac. The flight captain announced over the intercom: "Welcome to Cape Town, the most beautiful city in the world" After picking up my rental car I hit the chaotic morning traffic. Driving on the wrong side of the road definitely made things interesting, along with the fact that the only driving directions that I had was a text message from my friend. About three hours later I was happy to find myself in a small town called Clanwilliam, the last place to get food and gas before driving to the Cederberg Mountains, home to the famed boulders of the Rocklands...
some classic problems of our trip to the rocklands in summer 2009. me doing black velvet and hole in one, korni doing human energy and zlu doing out of balance and caroline.
During a climbing trip, the incomprehension and a lack of intimacy between Luisa and her father, Aurélio, causes a serious accident, which will change their lifes forever.

■Daniels Woods at the Gravity Brawl 2009 - Last qualifiers problem
On May 29-30 2009, the New Jersey Rock Gym hosted the Gravity Brawl for another successful event. Daniels Woods was the only one to flash all the qualifier problems. Here is raw footage of the last one (and the hardest).
■Daniel Woods at the Gravity Brawl 2009 - finals #4
Daniel was the only climber to flash all the qualifiers. However, he got shut down on the second finals problem which was sent by 4 other men. Since Daniel was the last to climb (and is know for his sick strength), the hopes were high that he would send the last problem. The previous climbers made it look impossible.
Unfortunately Mr Woods didn't send but he came the closest, using some clever beta. By going to the feature with his left hand, he was able to slap the hold on the right lip. Looks like it could have gone with more time (and more rest).
■Paul Robinson at the Gravity Brawl 2009 - Final #3
Here is raw footage of Paul Robinson on the third problem of the finals. The problem ended up being way easier than the routesetter intended. Every men sent it but most competitors struggled (some sick footage will follow). There no struggling here for Paul, winner of the comp. Hes simply swinging his way up, seemingly weightless.

This is a short video that I shot for the AAC Craggin Classic event where the Bates Award is given each year to a climber under 25 who demonstrates exceptional promise for pushing the limits in the coming years, and in which Alex Honnold who couldn't be there, accepts the award! I kept in all the out takes in, and I think thanks to my lack of editing, this has to be a record for number of F-bombs dropped in an acceptance speech!

On a Sunday morning perfect for rock climbing, Hugo tries one of the most hard and desired climbing routes at the sugar loaf in Rio de Janeiro: “Uruca”. Extremely difficult and dangerous it will demand all of his skill and concentration. The film shows all the difficult in a ascension like that in Rio de Janeiro.
It is a personal project without any sponsors or supports, made only with friendship by a team of climbers.
This is a featurette I did for National Geographic Adventurer & a photo manipulation software product called Photosynth. As a passionate rock climber I was very excited about doing this project and working with everyone involved. All still photos are by Corey Rich & much thanks goes out to Tommy for climbing the boulder problem a ton of times in less than ideal conditions. If you have every climbed in Yosemite Valley during July you know what I mean.
One of the most famous boulder problems in the World. The renowned problem is located on the massive Columbia Boulder at Camp 4, Yosemite.
Located on the northeast face, the boulder problem was believed unclimbable until Ron Kauk claimed the first ascent in 1978. "When Midnight Lightning was established, it was the hardest problem on the planet". Kauk wasn't the first one to find the line and brush out the holds, but he did make the first send.
Lynn Hill was the first woman to climb it in 1998.
I spent 2 weeks in the valley this summer climbing around. No one, that i saw, even came close to sending midnight lightning. Hayden drove in from Seattle arriving early one morning, all blurry eyed and tired, and sent the problem on his fourth try. Pretty bad ass.
Me climbing Midnight Lightning in Camp 4, Yosemite. Nick Vetter spotting (thanks!). Video by Courtney Miyamoto (sanks!).
■Midnight Lightning V8
Said is an internationally known climber who came back to Yosemite ten years later to climb on an old friend. This is the most famous boulder problem in the world situated in one of the most classic granite areas in the world. A true rite of passage for any climber! Great send Said!
